5 Reasons people are losing respect for Arvind Kejriwal

Once Upon A Time there was an Aam Aadmi called Arvind Kejriwal who came to the rescue of the oppressed common man…like a messiah. He promised to help rid of the goons who had wrecked havoc on this glorious land. And so, riding on the waves of the generosity and good will of the common people of the hinterland, he soon rose to prominence and power. But as all cliche goes…this one was no different, which is why let me present five reasons as to why AK aka Arvind Kejriwal aka Muffler Man has lost respect amongst the people of this country.

His Word Means Nothing

Well, if you remember the rhetoric that emerged during the Anna Hazare movement, you’ll remember that the entire gamut of the India Against Corruption (IAC) leadership (including our dear Arvind Kejriwal) was against the concept of ever entering the murky world of politics. Of course, that all changed with AK and AAP! So much for the rhetoric!!!

NOTE: Of course, one may argue…that when it is the right of every Indian to enter politics if he so chooses, why should Arvind Kejriwal be judged for entering politics. Well, it is not that he entered politics that made people like me lose faith in the man, it was actually the sharp contrast between his words and his deeds!

U-Turns

Well, even if you forgive him for entering politics (after all, they had a referendum), you cannot forgive him for his spectacular U-turns, right from the word go. Be it is his decision to form a coalition with the Congress (that he was once fighting and rallying against) to form government in Delhi post his first victory or his many other U-turns, such as the one on Sheila Dixit (and the so-called dossier he had against her, which later conspicuously disappeared from the AAP website), the private planes, the VIP culture, etc. In fact, in the case of AK…wherever you turn, there’s a U-turn!

Disloyalty

There were many who compared the duo — i.e. Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal to the august figures of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. But what stands out between Anna and Arvind is the disloyalty the latter showed to former. While Jawaharlal Nehru stuck with Bapu till he breathed his last, Arvind showed little remorse over abandoning Anna. Moreover, his treatment of the founding members of AAP also has proved to people that AK may be known for many things…but loyalty ain’t one of them!

Hypocrisy

I am sure we all remember how AK, along with his stooges, took to the metros in order to reach their swearing-in ceremonies. Of course, it did not come as much surprise when — just as the rest of the flock — they too started demanding big SUVs and bigger bungalows! AK has time and again proved that when it comes to hypocrisy, he is the master of the game. The politicians, in fact, have much to learn from this common man.

Tantrums

Well, if one was thinking of a suitable Bollywood analogy for AK, we’ll be left comparing the messiah of the mango man to a drunk Dharmendra on the water-tank from Sholay. Time and time again, Arvind has been alluded to as the ‘Rakhi Sawant of Bollywood’, which let’s be honest has not really won him any respect. To be reduced to being a political jester does not inspire much faith in the man, let alone any shred of respect!

And so, the common man awaits…for the ‘uncommon’ common man! And maybe then…and only then…will he live happily ever after!!!
