The Valentine’s season is here and millions of people across the world are celebrating love with full fervour. Couples across the world wait for the month of February to go out of their way to dedicate this day to their partners. While rationalists argue that there is no need to have a special day dedicated to love, the romantics make sure that every moment of Valentine’s week and beyond is spent in the company of their significant others. Some couples save up for months to get gifts and eat at expensive restaurants, others wait for this day to “pop the question” or cement their relationships forever. With social media taken over by Valentine’s Day tips and pre-wedding shoots, do you ever wonder about doing something different this Valentine’s?

Open your Facebook account and there are at least ten people announcing their Valentine’s plans, getting engaged, getting married, going Live from their honeymoon location (#TrueStory) , sharing Valentine’s Day selfies and expressing their happiness on the teddies and chocolates they just received. It is not abnormal for you to feel slightly left out if you are not expecting gifts or have someone to surprise you with a super date. Don’t sulk. Call your other single friends and make exciting plans. Catch a new movie or simply Netflix and chill. Valentine’s Day is no holiday and you still must get to work and complete your assignments. But, if you are the kind who gets affected by other people’s display of celebrations on social media; find ways to make this day your own. Valentine’s Day is about celebrating with people you love and love does not discriminate.

Make your Valentine’s Day more special by keeping it discreet. After all, some moments are best remembered when they are only shared among the two who are in them.

Visit an Orphanage – Love knows no barriers. Love has no single definition. There are so many people out there who are in need of love and care. Spare a few moments this Valentine’s Day and visit an orphanage to meet kids who have been robbed of the single biggest love of their lives; parents. Spend some quality time, talk to them about their dreams and aspirations. Their zeal and enthusiasm for life will surely surprise you and you are sure to get back a lot of love in return.

Visit an Animal Shelter– Animals cannot speak but they sure can love. If you are looking for pure, unadulterated love this Valentine’s Day, you do not have to look elsewhere. Whether you are a cat person or a dog lover, visit an animal shelter and spend a couple of hours with the animals who have been abandoned. They might not know what Valentine’s Day is about, but they will love you for the rest of the 364 days. If you are up for it, you may adopt and bring one of these little joys home. It will surely be Valentine’s Day done well.
