Most fuel efficient cars that you can buy in India

India has always been a country of “kitna deti hai”. It is the biggest deciding factor for any family who plans to buy a new vehicle. Looks, power, comfort everything comes second for most of the Indian customers. Recently, automobile manufacturers in India started to concentrate on the mileage of the vehicle a tad too much and an era started where every second new launch claimed to be the car with highest fuel efficiency. Currently in the Indian market, we have as many as 17 vehicles which delivers more than 25 km/l as per the brochure. Real world mileage can go down by 10% but still that is a good figure. We have compiled a list of cars that claims to return more than 25 km/l and is officially available in India. All these efficiencies are tested by Automotive Research Authority of India (ARAI).

  1. Chevrolet Beat

Beat has been one of the best sellers from the Chevrolet camp in India. The entry level hatchback is powered by petrol and diesel engines. The diesel engine is a three-cylinder unit and returns a maximum of 25.44 km/l.

  1. Ford Figo hatchback :

The Figo hatchback has remained the extensively tried and tested product from Ford. Ford launched the all-new Figo last year with new set of engines and the diesel engine of the car now has a rated fuel efficiency of 25.83 km/l.

  1. Ford Figo Aspire

Ford launched the sedan version of the Figo earlier than the hatchback version. It also helped Ford to enter the highly competitive sub-4 metre segment in India. The Figo Aspire gets the 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that returns 25.83 km/l, exactly same as the hatchback.

  1. Honda Amaze

Honda Amaze was crowned as the most efficient car in India when it was launched way back in 2013. Now, it has lost its podium but continues to be in the top-10 list of most efficient cars in India. The new Amaze was recently launched but the engine of the vehicle was not touched at all. The diesel version of the Honda Amaze returns 25.8 km/l.

  1. Tata Nano Twist

The Nano was launched as the cheapest car in India and has the smallest engine in this list of vehicles. Tata launched the updated Nano with power steering and named it as Nano Twist. The car returns 25.35 km/l and is the most efficient petrol car in India.

  1. Mahindra KUV 100

The Kool Utility Vehicle from Mahindra is the company’s first attempt to enter the sub-4 metre hatchback segment in India. The car comes with all-new mFalcon engines and the diesel engine returns as much as 25.32 km/l.

  1. Maruti Swift

The Swift has been around since a long time. The popular hatchback is also a top fuel-efficient car in India. The Swift diesel returns 25.2 km/l.

  1. Renault Kwid:

The Kwid has remained the best seller from Renault and also give tough comeptition to the likes of Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. The Kwid returns a maximum of 25.17 km/l.

  1. Tata Indica eV2

Now Indica has been around since quite a long time. We do see a lot of Indica cars being used by cab operators, you know the reason? They are cheap to maintain and also returns a maximum of 25 km/l.

  1. Tata Tiago

The Tiago was earlier named as Zica but was renamed due to a virus outbreak with similar name. Tata launched the Tiago with an exceptional price earlier this week and the diesel variant of the car returns as much as 27.28 km/l.

  1. Honda City

Honda for long shied away from developing diesel engines in India. The company finally succumbed to the demand and launched their first diesel engine with the Amaze. City also uses the same engine and returns 26 km/l.

  1. Maruti Swift DZire

The first sub-4 metre sedan in India is also the highest selling sedan in India. The car has been selling in India since a very long time and the diesel version of the vehicle returns as much as 26.59 km/l.

  1. Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz also uses the same engine as the Amaze, and City. Honda launched the all-new Jazz last year after the old Jazz was discontinued due to low sales. The new Jazz in its diesel avatar returns 27.3 km/l

  1. Maruti Baleno

Now the Baleno has been a super hit since its launch. The car has crossed a record 100,000 bookings and is made only in India. The Baleno diesel has rated fuel efficiency of 27.39 km/l.

  1. Maruti Celerio diesel

Celerio is the smallest diesel engine from the Maruti stable. The Celerio is powered by a small 796cc twin-cylinder motor that returns a maximum of 27.6 km to a litre

  1. Maruti Ciaz SHVS

Ciaz became the first Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) in India. The new Ciaz incorporates this mild hybrid technology which also gives the vehicle tax benefits in the market alongside higher fuel efficiency. The Ciaz SHVS has fuel efficiency of 28.09 km/l.

  1. BMW i8

The i8 by BMW is the highest selling hybrid sports car in the world. The i8 incorporates advanced hybrid technology to make sure that the power and the fuel efficiency of the car remains top-notch. The i8 is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motors. The fuel efficiency stands at towering 47.45 km/l!
