How time management increases productivity

The Cosmo lifestyle that the millennial generation is leading has forced them to manage multiple tasks in limited time. Over the years, jobs have become overly demanding, while at the same time, one needs to devote sufficient time to his/her friends, family and hobbies.

Time Management

In order to manage multiple tasks at hand, time management becomes inevitable. Many a times, we jostle with the mammoth task of prioritizing multiple things that need to be accomplished in limited time; in such situations, it is important to prioritize and complete the activity that holds maximum importance or the one that seem most difficult.

“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.” – Zig Ziglar

As rightly said, eat the frog in the morning, which means, if you have a list of tasks to be accomplished in a day then start with the one that you find most cumbersome and just wrap it up so that you can focus on other important tasks. E.g. One fine day, you reach office and you know that there is a meeting that you need to conduct with your subordinates in order to explain to them certain plan of action that holds utmost importance; in such a scenario, it is wise to prioritize this as soon as you reach office so that for the rest of the day, you can plan and execute other things, with a stress free mind; such practice would eventually boost your productivity in the long run.

Another critical thing to remember is that that you should estimate wisely, time required to complete a particular task and accordingly allocate sufficient number of hours or days to it; just make sure to not allocate extra time to any task that is not very important. This way, you can keep a check on your productivity as well as figure out ways to enhance it.

A key hack to time management is planning; if majority of your time goes in planning, execution becomes a cake walk. Plan for the things you have to do, a day in advance. Every night, when you go to bed, just devote 10-15 minutes in planning the tasks for the next day, it will give you a better idea of the things that are of high priority and the time that they require, as well as the ones that can be pushed a little ahead. This way, you will not waste your time in struggling with the task of prioritizing your day’s activities and you can eventually make the most of your time.

Apart from enhancing your productivity, time management saves you from devoting unnecessary time to any particular task, which might hamper other tasks in the pipeline.

While planning forms an integral part of time management, one should not ignore the importance of healthy interactions and discussions. If you are struggling with a particular kind of work then it is wise to discuss the same with your peers and seek help from them, instead of devoting extra time to it without getting any productive results. Human interactions form a key part of time management and hence one should take them too into consideration.

Therefore, in order to enhance productivity, time management is momentous. It can be easily achieved through critical analysis of your activities and by categorizing them into those of high importance and the ones that are of low importance, wisely planning your day’s activities and by sticking to your plans, even in the difficult situations. Such simple steps would endow fruitful results in the long run.
