3G Technology: The New Dimensions in Mobile Telephony. When it comes to the wireless mobile telephony, 3G has clipped up all its previous counterparts namely 1G and 2G with its revolutionary inception in the market place. 3G is certainly a boom for those who believe in ultra modern mode of telephony. The technology has proved its craze among the subscribers and consumers with some out of the box features and utilities. This third generation technology is the strong basis of spectrum. Spectrum is a stretched range of radio frequencies while another term bandwidth is the difference between the upper and lower frequencies of the signal.
The Seamless offerings
The first generation technology or 1G was an analog mode of offerings and likely 2G enhanced the communication with digital signals. Rather interesting, 3G made the big leap either two and revolutionized the way in which the mobile telephony has been triggered on higher levels. What keeps 3G stands apart from its other subordinates is an ability to transfer voice and non voice data, instant messaging and video conferencing. In very wide terms, the biggest advantage of the 3G is an added utility called video telephony. List of benefits is more comprehensive as 3G enables video broadcast and data-intensive services where continuity of signals and reliability does matter. Some of these services are stock transactions, e-learning and telemedicine.
The Pricing Band
TRAI, the Indian regulator of spectrum auction and distribution has created a transparent auction mechanism to sell out these precious signals to the service providers in good amount to enhance the cash flow of telecom department. If TRAI sources are to be believed, the body has extended a recommendation to auction radio frequencies for 3G mobility at a reserve price of Rs 1,050 crore. The base prize for the 3G spectrum is different in different cities. For an instance the base prize for the spectrum in cities of A category is 800 Million INR, for B category it falls somewhere 400 Million INR and for C category it’s 150 Million INR.
3G Licensing Process
The licensing authorities have initiated the process to offer the spectrum to the big time service providers like BSNL, MTNL, Relaince, Vodafone and Airtel etc. These 3G spectrum have been allotted to both for the commercial and non commercial purposes while starting the 3G mobile services. The auction is made for one month as a trail period initially it’s very less of the actual spectrum capability offered to the service providers.
The 3G spectrum is offered to all those interested parties that participate in the auction and pay the auction. GSM service providers who avail the spectrum for 3gG technology operate on 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz and CDMA players operate on 800 MHz. The increasing numbers of subscribers of 3G has shown the way to the operators to let them offer more utilities , Bring 4G technology in India and more advanced features with advanced services.
