Batukeshwar Dutt tops the list of the forgotten heroes of India's Independence. He was a contemporary of Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Rajguru, etc and was a great revolutionary of the time. He was influenced by the revolutionary ideology of having a social-republic nation and this made him join the Hindustan Social Republican Association. He along with Bhagat Singh, planted bomb in the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi while in session on 8th April 1929. He was arrested and was sentenced life transportation. He was released from the jail as he contracted tuberculosis but he still continued with his fight against the British Government and actively participated in the Civil disobedience movement. However, after India gained freedom, he was never recognized by the nation as a freedom fighter and thus he remained aloof from politics after Independence and died in 1977 due to prolonged illness. This hero should be recognized and respected duly for his contribution towards the freedom movement of India.
