Celebrating Diwali!

Diwali is around the corner. People celebrate Diwali by having family get-togethers, bursting crackers and playing cards. Here are my suggestions regarding the ways to make the festival of lights brighter for you.

1. Give away cards hand-made by you.

2. Feed someone hungry.

3. Say 'No' to crackers: Not only is the atmosphere but also the animals are adversely affected by them.

4. Decorate your street.

5. Cheer up someone unhappy. Nothing gives more happiness than making a sad face happy!

With these, I hope you have a safe and happy Diwali.

What are your suggestions?

Diwali or very aptly called “Deepawali” since history, was a festival celebrated with streets and houses decorated with rows of clay lamps/diyas once. This modernization has replaced them with crackers these days. Burning crackers can be visualized as burning money itself. These cracker bursting might be giving pleasure to some, but I am pretty sure that one can gain more happiness by utilizing those money into some productive work like donating clothes and sweets or some other requisites to any orphanage, old age homes or needy organizations. This action of yours can be a ray of hope for someone.

From another perspective, we can see the present burning globe of ours. So it is wise on everyone’s part to be very cautious in their actions for this world. Celebrate every festival, with the most festive mood but in an Eco-friendly manner.

Diwali is the festival of lights. My opinion is that over time people have forgotten the real meaning.

Diwali is the festival of enlightenment. It is the enlightenment of the mind, body and soul. A very important question here is: How has this meaning got lost? What can be done to bring it back?

Nowadays, the celebrations are not centered around worshiping but around wearing new clothes and bursting crackers.

Thank you for your suggestion of donating clothes. It would certainly bring happiness to some sad face. :)

Diwali ( दीवाली ) is my favorite festival. Diwali is celebrated twenty days after Shri Rama defeated Ravana and rescued Sita from ravana's captivity. Diwali or deepawali marks the return of Shri Rama to his birth place and kingdom - Ayodha after 14 years of exile. We celebrate Diwali with family by decorating our house with colourful lights, lighting diyas and worshiping lord Rama, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi followed by fireworks.
