Children Falls Prey To Bonded Labor Practice: Bonded Child Labor or slave labor is still practiced in India. In spite of the Bonded Labor System Abolition Act passed by Indian Parliament in 1976 declaring bonded labor illegal, yet approximately 10 million bonded children laborers works as domestic-servants here.
 
What Actually Causes Child Labor In India?

Around 55 million children are hired across different industries in India as bonded labor. Recent ILO report also suggests that around 80% children are employed in India's agriculture sector, these children generally are sold to rich money-lenders in cases when their parents couldn't return the borrowed money.
 
@economist: I agree with your point of view. There should be a Need For Strict Laws Against Child Labor. Factory owners prefer child laborers, as they have to pay only one-tenth of a normal person's wage to a child. Indian Government needs to implement stringent laws against child labor, as clearly already enacted Child Labor Prohibition Act failed miserably, Sivaski a town in Tamil Nadu still have thousands of child workers in its fire-cracker factories.
 
Child Laborers In India is increasing day by day. Many poor children in India start working at very tender age, to support the families, or to continue their family business. From working in factories to making products like matches or carpets or plantation works or jobs in home, these kids work everywhere. Over 44 million child-laborers exist in India.
 
Child Labor Across Indian Industries: Recent estimates suggest around 60,000 children are employed in Indian glass and bangle industries, matchbox industries have 35% children laborers amidst all its employees, the list includes Indian carpet and brass industry too. These children work 12 hours everyday starting from 4 A.M.
 
Child labour is a crime and any industry especially hazardous industries employing children below the age of 14 years is punishable under law. It has been provided under various laws of the Nation that if in case a child is employed in any industry, it is the duty of the employer to provide them with all the facilities along with education. However, it is sad that these laws are not followed and child labour still continues.
 
Child labor is increasing in India and the sole reason is poverty. Children below 14years, who from economically backward classes are employed in Industries, factories as well in houses for household work. It is a crime and is punishable under law. However, people still employ these children as they are not expensive. It is essential to make stern laws as well as people should become more vigilant and the law governing bodies needs to become more active and help in curbing child labour.
 
India is the biggest adobe for child labour. According to the census, there is an increase in the number of child labours from 11.28 million in 1991 to 12.59 million in 2001. Most of the child labours in India comes from the slum areas. However, in my view the main reason for this increase is poverty. Child labour cannot be stopped only by enacting laws but it can be stopped by removing poverty from India.
 
Though there are laws preventing child labor, it is a very common practice!

Why is this so?

.In some families esp. where the number of children are large; parents are unable to support them and themselves financially. So, they send their children to work at an early age.

. Some parents are not very educated. They do not realize the importance of education for their children.

.A sad reality is that some children who are left orphans are often exploited by other family members or other people. They are victims of circumstances and have no other choice!
