Durga Pooja is considered as the main festival of benngalis and they celebrate it like anything important in their lives. This is also called as Navaratrein and Dashera in various parts of the nation. Durga is known as the goddess who fight against all demons and evils. People celebrate this festival with full joy and carores of ruppes were spent on the making of the durga statues. Huge statues were made at that time and later on were dipped in to the sea near by. People decorate the statue with different materials from pulses to leaves and spices to thermocol.

Durga pooja is celebrated with romp and pomp all around the indian nation. But Bengalis celebrate it with utmost delight as they find it their most important festival of the year. Idols of Godess Durga mata are displayed at various places where people come together to have a glimpse of beautifully carved and huge statues of the godess. This is something which cannot be seen elsewhere in the world apart from india.

As already some of my fellow writers have posted the importance of Durga Puja, I shall skip the literal description of what the festival is about. Being a Bengali myself, I am eager to share what Durga Puja means to all the ‘Bongs’.

Durga Puja is not just a festival to us but a feeling of belongingness, gratification, and precision. It is like a melody that begins even before ‘Mahalaya’, it is the anticipation for the ‘Dhaak’, ‘Sindur-Khela’ and new dresses.
We have quite a good number of festivals yet what is it about this one in particular that makes it grandeur? Durga Puja is what Eid is to Muslims and Christmas is to Christians. There is an exquisite touch of nostalgia in the mention of the festival which invokes a sense of unity even among strangest of strangers. Besides the pandal hopping and hanging out, Durga Puja is one of the identities of Bengal.
