With the rise in population enormously every year, the initiative of family planning has been taken up by the Indian government. The basic idea of the initiative is to control the population explosion in India by promoting birth control methods and having a smaller family.

Now that the resources are becoming limited day by day, especially the natural resources and also the competition of surviving with utmost standards, the demands of the large population cannot be met. In India the prevailing condition is overpopulation hence it is an important concern to implement family planning programs effectively. Although the fertility rate of Indian women is found to be declining recently, it has not reached the levels of replacement as yet.

There are many factors that leave the family planning go in vain, most important one being ignorance. Most of the Indian population living in the Villages or rural areas are unaware of the family planning programs and benefits of FP. So reaching those populations and educating them with the advantages of family planning and how to implement the program will greatly help in controlling the population.

Family planning mostly stresses on two important aspects. One being, use of contraceptives which controls the unwanted pregnancy. Most of the rural population hesitate using them or are ignorant of its use. Secondly, people are educated to have a small family with maximum of two children.

Advantages of family planning:
  1. Prevents unwanted pregnancy
  2. Prevents troublesome abortions.
  3. Controlling family size helps in utilizing resources optimally and thus leads to a better living.
  4. A wider impact on the nation or world is that the levels of resources are not depleted more rapidly than they are built up.
  5. Population stabilization is an important factor in having an healthy economy of the nation.

population stabilization can be achieved only by collective efforts of us indians. we should realize the gravity of the situation and address the situation by following family planning program. having limited number of babies and using contraceptives to avoid unwanted pregnancy are also methods to stabilize population.

India should Implement the following 10 point formula immediately to control the increasing population in India.

1. The Indian government must set up a coordinator for all high growth states. The coordinator must be appointed by the central government of India, but will work with state government. District coordinators too must be appointed to prepare action plans and continuously monitor the situation, make modifications, share ideas, success stories and research success stories in India and abroad. Each district can have volunteers. This must be implemented in addition to the ideas stated above. The coordinator must monitor implementation of SSA, PMGSY, NRHM, NREGS as well. This will help greatly because too many good ideas are implemented only in a very small region. Good practices in one region are not implemented elsewhere. This is the biggest roadblock to the family planning program in India and the biggest failure of central governments. The coordinator will also advise state governments about good practices in other states.

2. Monetary incentive for sterilization must be given by both State and central Government of India and there must be a uniform central policy

A hypothetical scheme would be as follows

  • Sterilization after 2 children Rs x
  • Sterilization after 2 children (at least 1 girl) Rs 2x
  • Sterilization after 2 children (both girls) Rs 3x
  • Sterilization after 1 child Rs 4x
  • Sterilization after 1 child (girl) Rs 6x

3. Incentives for the girl child : Special monetry incentives for the education of the girl child, for higher education etc. This is being implemented by The Indian state governments but there is no central government policy for this.

4. Multimedia and Online campaign to spread awareness and explain why population control is important to the county and the region, besides the family. The importance of family planning to the region, to the country and to natural resources must also be explained and we have for too long vacillated between inaction and coercion

5. Catch them young: To explain the benefits. Incorporate Family planning awareness in the SSA

6. Make family planning related material available through fair price and ration shops in all villages and small towns.

7. Roping in famous personalities like movie or TV actors and religious leaders to spread the message of family planning in India.

8. Special package for senior citizens in NREGS. This is very important to rein in population growth

9. Special package to corporates and other individuals who wish to contribute to family planning initiatives

10. To encourage adult literacy programs particularly female literacy.
 
Family planning is indeed an important task and must be followed by every citizen of india. The over growing population needs a stop as it is creating chaos in the country. Family planning is good not only for the country as well as for the individuals. Through this people will be able to concentrate on their children quite efficiently.
 
family planning is very important in india. the growing population of india is quite high and needs a full stop. government should start several programs for the people of india who are uneducated about the family planning. this is a very important thing and must be start by the government no matter what. many people give birth to more and more children as they think that if they have more children they have more earning hands but it is not true. These days people have understood teh importance of family planning and they are very well following it.
 
Family planning is another growing issue in india. People from the urban areas are now have understood the problem of having many children and the population explosion but in rural areas the problem still persists. People there still thinks that if they have more children they have more earning hands and hence they keep on giving birth to children without even knowing its side effects. The problem of education and feeding rises and hence result in to poverty.
 
Family planning is a must done precautionary measure for Indians. Population is the main responsible factor for many back drops in India. As per family planning act 1967 and 1970, any couple can have only 2 kids. Indian government should make an act like family planning after 2nd delivery is a mandatory. If only our population can recover
 
Modern Indian Women Giving Priority To Family-Planning and using proper advises from the experts. Using contraceptives helps reducing fertility i.e. lesser number of babies per mother. In modern India almost everybody is aware of family-planning, in spite of that only 36% married women in age group 13-49 years are actually utilizing modern contraception ways.
 
I appreciate the information shared by the folks. But I really feel that government of India should take up the responsibility of safeguarding the Indian families, especially the poor and the middle class family. I would like to add a point here that people should start taking responsibility of their health care issues and for their families. Hospitalization expenses have gone up to such heights that no one can afford it without a medical cover, which I feel is a must.
