Freedom to Dress for Indian Women

We speak of big things while living in a democratic country that treats men and women equally , there are many articles and Rights that talk about women’s liberty, freedom, equal rights and privileges. But ironically the truth is something else. Women have been subjected to many suppression and discrimination since the beginning of the independence era. They have been dominated by the patriarchal Indian society that has perceived them as weaker individuals whose rights and liberty could be condemned very easily. It has been always the women who have to make sacrifices and compromises in order to feed the false egos of the narrow minded people of the Indian society. Due to the rapidly increasing crime cases against women again it is the time for the Indian women to make sacrifices and they are expected to sacrifice their freedom to dress as per their wish. Women have been blamed to provoke the men by wearing western dresses and the clothes that which expose the woman’s body exclusively. But my question is that, till when this menial mentality of our male dominated society would continue to survive? How many more sacrifices women would have to make to make their survival in our society? It is in fact not the freedom to dress that should be ceased but the ridiculous mentalities of the men need to be amended. What do you have to say about this?

The recent great mass uprising in the Dec 16th rape case, witnessed quotations on placards like "Do not tell me how to dress, tell your sons not to rape" . Yes, this is it, if the nation has to progress towards modernization in a wholesome way and stop crimes against its women folk, the first step should be towards removal of boundations on women.Only if women are stopped being looked down upon by men and are sought free from all condemnation, will they arise to speak for their rights and fight back molestation.
This calls for a more holistic approach and should be initiated by removing the narrowing minded mentality of the Indian society towards the dressing (attire) of women. Women are often accused of provoking men, but the main point that arises here is that, how many more compromises should they make to be granted freedom to survive freely in their own homeland?
My question here is, let us consider that the revealing dresses of young girls provoke men, yet, what do you have to say about the crimes (molestation and rapes) against women behind the "burkha" or what about those kids who have not even reached the age of puberty? Will the Indian men blame them too for provocation?
