Hassan is a well known place in the state of Karnataka and got its name from Goddess Haasanamba, who is worshiped by the people of this region. It is a heritage destination as the place has a rich history associated with it. The place was built by Hoysala Dynasty and the city also has the Indian Space Research Organisation’s master control facility. The city is a prominent pilgrimage for the Jains. Belur, is a major tourist attraction of the city as it features Chennakesava Temple and the Kappe Chennigraya Temple and attracts a lot of pilgrims. Shravanabelagola, an important pilgrimage hub of the Jains are situated here. Sakaleswara Temple and Gorur Dam are other tourist spots of the place.
