Indian Media should not interpret judgements

Chief Justice of India Balakrishnan on asked the Indian media not to interpret judgments of Courts , observing it leads to distortion of real facts.

"Very often it has been observed that Indian media reports project a distorted version of the real facts , Case and the judgments delivered by the Indian courts," Balakrishnan said.

Addressing a workshop on "Reporting on court proceeding on Indian media and administration of justice" and "Implementation of national rural employment guarantee scheme", he asked the Indian media to report court proceedings "correctly" so that Indian people are not deprived of justice.

Urging the senior Media editors to intervene and ensure that right versions of judgments should be reported in The Indian Media, the Chief Justice said there should be some moral bindings on Indian journalists while reporting court proceedings.

"Indian media is the Fourth Estate of Indian democracy and so they have to behave responsibly and work for the development of the society and the people of India ," Balakrishnan said.

The Chief Justice had a word of praise for the NREGA scheme and said the Narega has been an instant success and helped in a big way in removing Unemployment in India.

Chief Justice Of India is absolutely right, responsibility of media is to report an event as it is and leave it up to the viewers to make an opinion, media must not cross this threshold.

Obsessive Indian media is concluding in whatever mode they like. and as one Gentleman said, most important discussions in this country are happening in media rooms, rather than law making bodies (parliament). So this should change

I admit that the super-formal "Doordarshan Mode" of news reporting was/is not that good either but with few modifications it will be the best in the world.

Indian Media should keep in mind their limits

The media has the power but that does not mean that it has right to interpret or comment on the verdict given by the courts or any other judiciary system. Media can only hold the news to the viewers but other than this it cannot do any other work. And it is the order given by the Supreme Court of India. Hence media and media people must work within their limitation.

Media should not interpret judgements

That’s true that media today work more like news creators than new delivers. They present a completely different or distorted image of every piece of news and hence many time all this create more complication, among the people of nation. Often it has been seen, that what normally a person says; what actually comes in front by media, is completely different and hyped. Media tries to build up news and therefore it gives its own interpretation, rather than just playing a role of being a deliverer of news.

it is the business mindedness of the media that makes them draw their conclusions from insufficient resources. media should act responsibly as said by Chief justice of india. people believe what media shows on television and telecast of some wrong and inappropriate information causes wrong ideas to pop up in people which are actually not meant to be so.

since media is given power to do research anything it wants to, it is doing so. but concluding certain issues without knowing proper facts is not in their hands. they should act responsible to the viewers and citizens as people rely onto what they get from media thinking it must be from official sources.

The Honb'le Chief Justice of India was totally right and it is true that Indian Media interprets judgements in a distorted way. Indian media is an instrument of Indian democracy and has been confirmed with the freedom of speech and expression but Indian media has misused their freedom and have never lived up to the expectation and interpreting judgements and cases and they should be stopped from intervening into the courts cases and judgements.
