Indian police requires fitness.A pot bellied and a person with a fat double chin, usually aged and mostly un-athletic builds in possession of an outdated weapon (a mere rifle/pistol). This is a general description of an Indian policeman that you can associate with now a days. Again having said that not all fall under this description, there are able and apt policemen too. Main job of a policeman is to safeguard the common people from atrocities, and to do that a policeman should be well equipped and ready to help whenever called for. Fitness is a major concern, though it an important criterion for selection, yet our policemen, once they are into the job pays little or no attention into the fitness. They needs to pay serious attention and look to remain fit always (during their full tenure of service) and a mandatory fitness checks must be put in place in order to promote good health and physique among policemen. Once they are into the job, the policemen should look to remain loyal and honest towards their job and stay away from corruption and bribery.
The main charges against policemen these days are of bribery. Recently many cases have been reported against policemen caught red handed while taking bribe, these are matters of embarrassment and national shame. The Indian police service is a sacred institution and policemen and everyone concerned with the institution should look to maintain the sanctity of the same. Thirdly, a major change in the infer structure is needed, we still belong top the era of rifles and pistols when the world has moved on and embraced the new technology (AK-47 & AK-56). In order to fight against the social malcontent it is necessary to provide the policemen with more power and should be allowed to function independently and should not be made victim of political manipulation in order to make political gains.
I invite all proud Indians to post their views on Indian Police.
