Is Indian law more favourable towards Indian women?

I think that Indian laws are more favourable towards Indian women, especially in terms of personal laws. A women is given the privilege of getting maintenance even if she is independent and even in case of divorces a woman gets more privilege than men. A women is never punished under law even if she commits adultery but a man is punished under the relevant section of Indian Penal Code.
 
I don't think Indian laws as a whole shows any kind of favoritism for women or even men. The laws that are made in favor of women are only to protect them from being exploited. Moreover, our Indian society is a patriarchal society and in order to safeguard the women from falling victims of various crimes and also to upgrade their status, laws are made in favor of them and there is no other such reason behind making laws in favor of women.
