India has a considerable GDP and per capita income. India's GDP per capita income is $1389 which is way more than bangladesh. Yet bangladesh has lower infant mortality rate, malnutrition rate and better sanitation. Can't India do better than bangladesh, although we have a robust growing economy? What are the initiatives which government and individuals should take to bring out a positive effect?

India is a developing nation and have a huge economy. The economic development of a country or society is generally related with rising incomes and associated increases in consumption, savings, and investment. Evidently, there is a lot more to economic development than income growth; for if income distribution is highly twisted, growth may not be go with much progress towards the goals that are generally related with economic development. India is far better than Bangladesh and has a much stable economic growth. It is possible to have better social development at lower per capita and GDP if the resources are used properly.

Yes, but then what do you is going wrong in Indian scenario? Is it just the government which is not utilizing the funds optimally to bring up the infrastructure in India or are the people responsible too for not taking any steps? How about the NGOs? If government is not taking any action, then NGOs and people can together bring about a change!

Although India is a democratic nation, do you think democracy really prevails in India at present? People are responsible for everything but it is the duty of the Government to work towards development of the nation. If people are to solely work for it then why do we need a Government? Do you think that NGO's are less corrupt and they really work for the betterment of the society without any selfish motive? The root cause is corruption and inefficiency. We need to work on these and I am sure India can soon be called as a developed nation and become economically stable.

I agree with you. It is the responsibility of the Government to work for the development and progress of the nation as they are the elected representative of the citizens of India. Definitely we do not need a Government if we have to work. Moreover, NGO's are more of a profit-making business and their contribution towards the progress of the nation. Everything is possible and even it is possible to have better social development at lower per capita and GDP only if the Government and its machinaries work efficiently.

Your are right that Government is solely responsible for the development of the nation. We people are just a medium and we cannot progress until and unless the Government wants us to. I agree that social development at lower per capita is a possible but the Government should aspire for it and work for it and without there dedication we cannot progress.

Yes India can have have better social development at lower per capita and GDP only if the Government becomes serious. It is also important that Government should reform the economic policies. Moreover, the small scale industries should be encouraged in order to improve and increase the productivity. This will help in increasing the GDP and with increase in GDP, social development at lower per capita will be possible. What do you think?
