Kalikho Pul , Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Finance and Planning today created a stir in New Delhi when Kalikho cautioned the government of India against a “Kargil-like situation” in the Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh.
“China claims its rights over Arunachal Pradesh that shares a 1,806-km border in the north,” Pul is learnt to have told Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia during a discussion on the state plan.
According to Kalikho Pul, the Chinese wrote on rocks in Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh in an apparent attempt to mark regions in the state as their own. Pul and Arunachal Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin were in Delhi today to finalize the state plan for 2011-12.
When contacted, a senior government functionary told The Indian Express it was true that China was carrying out huge infrastructure development projects on the other side of the border. “But then, the geography on the other side comprises the Tibetan plateau, making it easier for construction,” the functionary said.
