Lucknow is one of the major and most popular tourist destinations of India and lies in the Avadh region of Uttar Pradesh. The city is also known as the "City of Nawabs" as this city was ruled by the Nawabs for a long time and this is evident from the architecture of the historical monuments present in the city. The rich culture and heritage of the city attracts a lot of tourists from all over the World and this is also one of the major heritage destination of India. The city is also famous for of its mouthwatering Nawabi cuisines and especially kebabs are a specialty of the city. Lucknow is a Muslim dominant city and the major festivals celebrated here are Moharrum, Id-Ul-Zuha, Id-Ul-Fitar, Shab-e-Barat. Apart from these, some of the Hindu festivals are celebrated with great pomp and show and these include Holi, Dusshera and Diwali. Jamghat, Bada Mangal Mela & Lucknow Mahotsav are some of the other major festivals celebrated here. Some of the major attractions of the city that has historical importance include Asafi Imambara (Bara Imambara), Chhota Imambara, British Residency and Shah Najaf. Other major attractions of the city are umi Darwaza, Sikandar Bagh, Lucknow Zoo & State Museum, Botanical Gardens and Kaiserbagh Palace complex. The people of Lucknow are generous and hospitable and this proves that it is truly the 'City of Nawabs'.
