Mahabaleshwar is the most popular hill station of western India. It is a plateau that is located in the Satara district in Maharashtra. The city is situated 1,353 metres above sea level with an area measuring 150 sq kms. It is 285 km south-west of Mumbai. The city has a rich historical background as it was ruled by many rulers time to time. The city has 3 major villages Malcolm Peth, Old ‘Kshetra’ Mahabaleshwar and some part of the Shindola village. The river Krishna which flows across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh originates from old Mahabaleshwar. The city is famous for strawberries and mulberries. If anyone is planning for a short holiday near Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar is the perfect one.
