The problem of Malnutrition in different states of India has become common now among people who are poor. India ranks second in the world of the number of children suffering from malnutrition. In Gujarat, 44.7% of children are underweight, 6.1% of children die under the age of 5 from hunger. In Karnataka, 37.6% of children are underweight, 28.1% of the population is malnourished and 5.5% of children die under the age of 5 from hunger. In Kerala, 22.7% are underweight, 28.6% of people are malnourished, 1.6% die before 5 from hunger.

Children in Rajasthan suffer a lot from the problem of malnutrition. Nearly about half the children in Rajasthan suffer from malnutrition, 49% of women are anemic and nearly a third of children are born with low weight. In addition to that just 14% of children between twelve and twenty-three months receive the required vaccinations in order to prevent diseases like small pox and polio. Though government has opened several health care centers for these people still proper care is not yet taken for such people.

@sweetangel: yes , I do agree from this that children from the state of Rajasthan suffer a lot from the malnutrition and the disease like goiter where the neck glands becomes swollen. Children usually do not get proper diet at such places due to the issue of poverty and unhygienic conditions. They suffer from the problems of rickets, malnutrition, goiter etc. Though these can be cured if taken care on time.

What I think is that, government should take proper measures for the development of these rural areas children as their [parents are not educated enough to deal with these problems and malnutrition. Government should be vigilant enough to provide proper nutrition and medicines to such children so that they can be developed well.

Situation Analysis of young children in Delhi

It is found that more than 66% of children under the six years in Delhi slums are malnourished. Malnourishment of India stands at 40%. This has been disclosed by the survey report of situational analysis of young children in Delhi. This study was done in 22 slum clusters in Delhi.

The problem majorly lies with the poorer section of india who are unaware of the facts about malnutrition. Education of such sections is should be the prime motive of the government and concerned authorities working on this issue. Malnutrition is nothing but inadequate supplementation of nutrients to the infants and new borns which lead to improper growth of the child.

The problem of Malnutrition arises mainly due to the lack of the nutrition inside the body of the children. They are lagging behind in one of the other nutrition such as sodium, calcium and other nutrition. Due to this they face the problem of rickets, goiter and other problems since birth.

Malnutrition - A Cause Of Concern Among Indian Children: Malnutrition is one growing problem amongst the Indian children, different reports suggest that each year minimum 2 million children under 5 years age die owing to variety of curable and preventable diseases. Half of Indian children are eventually underfed and approximately 45% children under 3 years age are underweight.

Gender Analysis
Nearly 100 infants in Madhya Pradesh’s tribal districts of Satna and Khandwa have been reported in 2008 aggravated by malnutrition and hunger. According to the official National Health Survey conducted in 2006, more than 60% of Madhya Pradesh’s children are malnourished. One of the 8 Millennium Development Goals that member countries of the United Nations pledged to attain by the year of 2015 is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.

It's very sad that 1 out of 3 malnutrition children in world lives in India. 50% of childhood deaths are because of malnutrition and 90% of infant deaths take place because of malnutrition. Malnutrition varies from state to state. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, kerala, Karnataka, and other states facing malnutrition problems in children like hell. Madhya Pradesh is recorded as 55% of malnutrition percentage whereas kerala shows 27% of malnutrition.
