Mondei is a tribal festival celebrated in the Nabarangpur district of Orissa. This festival is typically celebrated after the harvesting season during the month of November. It is a festival where people gather together and worship a common god in the middle of ancient rituals, accompanied by a fair and amusement activities with mandatory folk dances and tribal songs, which continues throughout the night.

Celebration and Significance of Mondei Festival
Mondei Festival is one of the most important festivals of Orissa, wherein people from different tribal communities of Nabarangpur district comes together to celebrate it with great enthusiasm, pomp and show. During this festival large parishioner of devotees from all over India, who worship a common deity comes to this festival. People offer prayers to deity with traditional rituals and customs. This festival is celebrated with grandeur, accompanied with a fair organized by the inhabitants of that district. Besides the traditional rituals and customs, there are dance and music performances a part of the festivity of Mondei festival. An eye-catching feature of the carnival involves tribal opera that extends throughout the night. The time of celebration is generally after harvest in the month of October-November. The festival is celebrated at different locations in the district in which men and women from nearby places gather to participate. Conventionally, a district level program today attracts a horde of tourists from all over India. An array of programs is organized to match all classes of audiences along with different activities like rural sporting, Mountain trekking, Kavi Sammelan, Crafts mela, Artist camps, Pallishree mela, Development exhibition, Open quiz and Folk dances are organized. Vibrant processions are carried out to keep the festive spirit energetic.
