Obesity has become a major Health Issue these days with obese people growing up in number gradually all over the world. Recently even India is showing increasing numbers of obese people.

According the statistical reports the morbid obesity is affecting 6% of Indian population. Western countries with their food habits are already suffering from rising obese population. India is following the trends of the western and adopting them. This is leading to further increase in obese people.

Causes of obesity :

Hereditary : One of the causes of obesity could be genetic traits from ancestors. If your parents or their parents are obese, it is likely that even you develop such a trait that is obesity.

Hormonal imbalance : There are various hormones whose imbalances in body can lead to obesity. However thyroid gland is sometimes found to be associated with it.

Bad food habits : Eating junk foods in one of the main reasons of obesity. The saturated fatty acids which are present in most of the junk food are the source of stored fat in the body.

Sedentary life : Leading a sedentary life without any major activities can also cause obesity due to extra calories being built up.

The other major reason being developing trends of packed food items which are mostly contained with saturated fats. The genetic studies conducted on Indians suggest that Indians are more susceptible to add up fat in the waist region of the body.

However the obesity can be treated by following good and healthy diet programs , Yoga and doing regular aerobic exercises. Since yoga is more prevalent in India, people in India are having more chances to stay healthy by practicing it regularly as it helps a lot in reducing body fat.
