Women in India continue to suffer socially as well as economically at different levels and in different forms even after so many years of independence. One of the most horrific violence against women is branding them as witch. Scores of women are regularly killed on charges of witchcraft across the country. This largely happens in states like Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, Assam annually.

The scenerio of Indian women in this 21st century is still the same as it was before. Women still have to suffer to a great extent. Undoubtedly, Indian women have achieved a great height in every field but there are still some places in India where women folk is illtreated. Branding women as witch and killing them mercilessly is yest another such example. People of India in some places still follows the old superstitious beliefs. A number of cases of killing women considering her to practice witchcraft are reported on daily basis. One of such recent cases have been recently reported in a remote village of the state of Assam. A woman and her son was burnt alive as they were believed to practice witchcraft. Education is the only means to stop such an act of disgrace as it has the power to remove the superstitious belief and increase the reasoning power. Media can as well play a crucial role in creating awareness against such violences.

Branding women as witch and killing them is quite common in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam. Women are still being deprived socially as well as economically. It is a matter of shame and disgrace that even in this modern era people are still extremely superstitious and kill women by branding them as witches only for these superstitious reasons. Imparting education can be a great way to stop the plight of women in India i.e. branding them as witch. Creating awareness through media and other means can be equally effective.
