India only has 80 million internet users right now according to the CIA world factbook, all these users are likely more profficient in English. As for the rest they are likely occasional or don't use the internet at all. In the next 30 years we are going to decide what direction our counrty goes in. English was leftover from British rule, and is not our language, it never will be. What I propose is that we try to make information accesible to the 1 billion indians who speak indian languages. It's not fair that they have to get their information in English.
In my perfect world we would all speak our languages at a high level, and only speak English to communicate outside. It seems to me that South Indians (who I have much respect for, don't get me wrong) might not want to be a part of a unifying language, that's fine, they have the right, but the rest of us should at least make the effort. Over the next little while, India will decide whether she decides to preserve her culture and languages or not. The Chinese will always speak Chinese, the Arabs will always speak Arabic, are we to stop speaking our languages? In north Africa there was a huge movement back towards arabic away from French (although French it sill very common, media is now completely in Arabic), we have the opportunity to do the same thing in India, there are enough of us, and we will soon be rich enough.
