One of the greatest revolutionaries of India’s freedom struggle against British rule in India and a great patriotic poet, Ram Prasad Bismil was born in 1897 at Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was born in an orthodox Hindu family and his parents were Murlidhar and Moolmati. He has been a patriot since his childhood and wrote several patriotic poems under the fictitious name of Ram, Agyat and Bismil. Ram Prasad became famous among his friends and classmates for his poems both in Hindi and Urdu, reflected his love for the motherland. Based on revolutionary and patriotic themes, his poems became quite popular. Although, he had to leave his formal education at 8th standard owing to poor financial conditions, he did not stop writing poems. “Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna” is the most popular and heard among all his poems. His poems always portrayed his revolutionary feeling, love for his motherland and his want for freedom of his country.
Ram Prasad Bismil first participated in the Manipuri Conspiracy in the year 1918. He later, joined the Hindustan Republican Association, where he met Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Ashfaqulla Khan, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Govind Prasad, Bhagawati Charan, Thakur Roshan Singh, Premkishan Khanna and Rai Ram Narain. These people inspired him to become a revolutionary and fight for the freedom of his motherland. His name is primarily connected with the Kakori Train Robbery. With his friend, another great revolutionary of India, Ashfaquallah Khan, Bismil carried out revolutionary activities in Shahjahanpur. They together ransacked government funds to accomplish their mission. They as well published an agenda called Krantikari in 1925, which upheld the obliteration of inequality and slavery in order to raise funds for the revolution.
In the year 1925, during his journey by train from Shahjahanpur to Lucknow, he discerned that bags filled with money were taken into the guard’s van and kept inside an iron safe. This prompted his mind and together with his friend Asfaquallah Khan and other revolutionaries of that place, he made a plan to rob the train at Kakori. On August 9, 1925, they together executed the plan of stealing the money from the Train at Kakori and this incident made him quite popular as it was the mastermind of Ram Prasad Bilmil. This incident wobbled the British Government and they issued a warrant against the revolutionaries of the Hindustan Republican Association, except against Chadrashekhar Azad.
On 26th September, Ram Prasad Bismil was arrested and taken into custody by the British Government, after a month long search and was appeared in Court of Law. The distinguished Indian lawyers tried to best of their abilities to save him as well as the other revolutionaries but despite of them trying hard, he failed. Bismil was found guilty of the incident and was given death sentence together with Ashfaqullah Khan and two others and the rest were sentenced to life imprisonment. On 18th December 1927, at the age of 30, he was hanged till death. His death was a great loss to the nation as it lost a great leader as well as a great patriot.

He was the one to show the path of freedom struggle to legends like Bhagat Singh, Shukdev, Asfaqullah Khan and many more.
