Russia unveils new nuclear doctrine

MOSCOW: Lowering the threshhold for the use of nuclear weapons, Russia has said it reserves the right to hit back with nukes in case of an aggression, in a new doctrine which may be a veiled warning to China and rising NATO powers.

"Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in response to the use of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction against it and its allies, as well as an aggression against the Russian Federation with the use of conventional weapons jeopardising the very existence of the state," a military doctrine signed by President Dmitry Medvedev said.

Speaking on the conditions of anonymity some foreign diplomats believe that the lowering of threshold for the nuclear weapons could be a veiled warning to China, which has an overwhelming numerical advantage over Russia with the total population less than 147 million.

A retired three-star Soviet general, who wished not to be named, told PTI yesterday that after 1968 border conflict with China, the Soviet General Staff had virtually given up the concept of a conventional war with 'our great Asian neighbour', the new doctrine has publicly stated the stance.

Expansion of NATO closer to the boundaries of Russia, deployment of missile shield elements on the perimeter of its land and maritime borders, international terrorism, proliferation of WMD and growing number of nuclear powers have also been identified as the external threats for the security of the nation.

India should change it's Nuclear stand from no first use policy to the one Russia recently announced. Times change, and so should we. The least this would do is create ripples amongst policy makers in our immediate neighborhood. Certainly fits the situation we live in!

Well, if we think somebody is rouge and i am the good one then nothing will happen. The mankind must establish a system that controls these leathel weapons. But if some states can have it and some other cant, then it will be a very difficult task and danger for everybody.

See, Pakistan's Nuclear ideology is confusing. This is threatening.

India have a 'No First Use' policy.

ISI backed terrorists created havoc in the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, and there are many more such attacks on Indian soil. There are attacks on Afghanistan even.

So, God forbid, if a Mumbai like attack happens again on Indian soil, India's Patience will run out. I hope you know, India's conventional and Nuclear capabilities. We can take on Pakistan and China at the same time, and are still arming ourself. Just because we need peace, does not in any way mean we are meek.

So, when there are rouge nations around us, we should maintain our supremacy on conventional as well as nuclear capabilities.

I do not advocate a nuclear war, but our existence should not be threatened by rouge nations.

Pakistan and India's issues must be solved diplomatically. It is very dangersouse for both pakistan+india as well as the region. I am sure the leaders are smart enough to see this. I dont want to talk much about india/paksitan relation becasue it is not that much of my interest and at the same time both of these countries have got allegations and countre allegations against each other, and if there is any type of war especially nuke war, then nobody will survive, we asian and thrid world countries dont need wars, instead we need cooperatin and developement, look at the other nations, they dont fight each other and consume their energy for nothing why are we asians like this? But regarding afghanistan, we have always been a victim of wrong policies of paksitan.

We have proved beyond doubt of Pakistan's hand in each and every terror attack in Pakistan. On the other hand, Pakistan have not done so. Let Pakistanis give proof about Indian involvement infront of the world. They got nothing to prove, so they bark.

But regarding afghanistan, we have always been a victim of wrong policies of paksitan.

Seriously, dude, when it comes to Afghanistan, you been a victim of Pakistan.
And when we talk about India, we are at fault too.

What you fail to realize is that the tag "Pakistan is the epi-center of terrosism" did not come out of the blue.

Afghanistan and India both are victims of state sponsored terrorism from Pakistan.
