Kanaklata Barua was a young girl from Gohpur, which is a small village in Tezpur, Assam, who fought for the freedom of the India. She was a courageous lady and a patriot in the true sense. She took active part in the freedom struggle in Assam against the Britishers. She was only seventeen when she was shot dead by the British Government while trying to hoist the Congress flag in Gohpur police station during the Non Cooperation Movement in 1942. She is little know to the world but she was one of the those martyrs who fought for the nation's freedom and sacrificed life for the nation. It is the duty of every Indian to salute the courageous lady for her immense love and sacrifice for the nation.
