Skeletal fluorosis is kind of bone disease which is caused by excessive consumption of fluoride. Skeletal fluorosis causes pain as well damage to the bones and joints in the advanced cases. The most common cause of fluorosis in India is fluoride-laden water that is derived from deep bore wells.

This is a dangerous disease and the main symptoms of Fluorosis are: Symptoms of fluorosis are primarily promoted in the structure of bone. The bone is hardened and less elastic due to high Fluorine concentration in the body which results into an increased frequency of fractures. Other symptoms include accumulation of bone tissue and thickening of the structure of bone which both contribute to impaired joint mobility.

Fluorine can also damage the thyroid gland that leads to hyperparathyroidism which is uncontrolled secretion of parathyroid hormones.
