Slang; A New Culture Emerging among the Youth

Slanguage is a dialect that makes the use of slangs, abbreviations and short spellings (OMG, LOL, LMAO, WAT, LUB U, ROFL etc). Usage of slang and abbreviation while talking and in fact while typing and messaging the SMS, has rapidly increased among the youth. The biggest reasons that the youth gives for practicing slanguage in their daily life routine, are apparently the lesser time consumed in typing/writing and sending the messages through phones and it also helps them to convey their ideas more conveniently. This language might be very normal and casual for the youth but certainly the person who is totally ignorant of such slangs feels to be left with many confusions. But the question that attracts our attention on this issue is that; does this language really prolific for the youth and does this way of language deserve to be a normal way of talking and communication? I really don’t think so! Using slangs might reduce the time of typing and communication but it is immensely degrading the value of Language. Slanguage is emerging as a New Culture among the youth , and it is rather coming out as one of the biggest threats for youth that would sooner become inefficient in spoken and verbal language and who would totally be ignorant of exact spellings and grammar of language. This new trend of communication is rather taking the youth far away from the core beauty of true literature and language.

The purity of the language is in menace because of slang. Slang saves time but it also compromises on our ability to express ourselves.

This is what happens when we depend too much on slang. We cannot think of anything else to say but we tend to insert the slang term immediately. Thus, we stop thinking of other things to say and express ourselves.

People have become so used to speaking and writing in slang that it has come to be used in formal interactions as well!

Now a days, the languages have begun to take a complete turnover in its existence. Some words belong to their origin, while other words are instantly originated as per the requirement. Slang actually refers to those words which were once used by a group of people and became famous worldwide over a time period. Not all such words are abusive in nature. In the youth context, the emergence of these has led to deterioration of their English vocabulary and a very often usage of abbreviations in their routine chats and writings. Slang have become a sign of friendliness among youths. Although there has been a very vivid and filthy way of it’s usage, still prevailing in our society.
