The third edition of the Tobacco Atlas released in Dublin by the American Cancer Society and World Lung Foundation says that more women in India are turning smokers and oral users of tobacco. India has 3rd highest number of female tobacco users in the world. Of the estimated 11.9 million female consumers of tobacco in India, 5.4 million smoke it and rest chews the leaves.

Smoking is more rampant in metro cities and rural places of india. The women smokers of india are more in rural areas where they chew tobacco or smoke bidis due to their lifestyle. The metropolitan women do it to cope up stress or even to show off as some find smoking in vogue. Looking at this scenario we can infer that indian women is also becoming a major role player in changing lifestyles in India.

Smoking among women in India is increasing day by day. Smoking creates health problems among women especially reproductive health. Tobacco consumers are more vulnerable to disease especially cancer and particularly lung cancer. There are many factors leading to increase in women smoking. Women catch the smoking habit in rural areas as they are required to light their husband’s hukkas. Some women smoke beedis as past time.

This should come as a serious wake up call for female smokers. The risk of developing coronary heart disease is 25% higher for women smokers as compared to men according to the a study published in the British medical journal ‘The Lancet’. Smoking harms women more than men.

Women smoking is highly seen in rural areas. Women used to chew tobacco leaves, old women in rural areas even smoke various drugs. This is mainly because of their life style. Urban women mainly smoke to get relax from tensions. They feel tobacco is some what better than other drugs. Not only lung cancer, smoking does cause many other infections as well. Smoking mainly cause cystoids of hemoglobin, which leads to low HB percentage in blood, which is probably responsible for many severe infections.

I guess women are smoking these days due to tension and out of depression as well as it has become a trend for some women to smoke in groups. They find it a latest fashion and mostly seen smoking outside their hostel, colleges and in PVR's. they openly smoke with their boy friends and friends and share the puffs with them. I actually hate such things!

Smoking Killing Large Number Of Indians. Modern India is facing smoking problems in great magnitude, being stress buster for some, or just addiction more Indians are falling prey to smoking. Statistics suggest over 1 million individuals die because of smoking tobacco each year. Smoking cause ghastly diseases like Emphysema, Lung Cancer, COPD(Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder).

"Smoking is injurious to health."It is a staturory warring found in every packets of ciggerets. Women now-a-days are more inclined to smoking inorder to cope up with the grwoing work tensions or other casues that leads to depression. No doubt it has become a trend for many women especially in the Metro cities or the upcoming metro cities. It is now like a fashion statement for a woman. It is exceedingly injurious especially for women as it can lead to a number of serious diseases like cancer, tubercolosis etc and it also leads to infertility.

It has been witnessed that women in India are more prone to smoking or using tobacco especially in the Metros. Some women are inclined to smoking to reduce the growing tension and some does it just for fashion. Whatever the reason may be it finally leads to a kind of addiction. Smoking can actually be extremely injurious to health as it can cause deadly diseases like cancer especially of the mouth, throat and lungs, tuberculosis, osteoporosis, cervical cancer, premature menopause and also leads to infertility. Smoking harms woman's health more than that of a man for the reason that the immune system of a women is weaker than that of a man.

Today women are more prone to smoking as compared to men. Some do it for fashion and some due to stress of life. However, smoking is injurious to health and affects the body. Since the body of a women is more sensitive than men, it gets affected very fast. Smoking can lead to various lung diseases, breathing problems, infertility in women, miscarriage during pregnancy etc.

Although, smoking is more common among Indian men than women, however, a study reveals that Indian women smoke more than Indian men per day. As per data from the GATS, tobacco usage among women is on the rise, doubling from 10% to 20%. More than 8.5% women who are ante-natal mothers uses tobacco. This is affecting the overall health of females in India and reducing the longevity.
