Social Reforms in India

Simple Funda is bringing reforms in the economy on the basis of Indian conditions. Following Western Patterns without regards to local conditions is foolish attempt.I am not against Western System, but Priority is Indian social System. I always ask myself the following for self-analysis. I put the same for the general public to sit & think & find the answer. If people understand the philosophy behind these comparisons I am sure TIME HAS COME TO TRANSLATE THESE ANSWERS & START IMPLEMENTATION. In this way, hopefully, our woes would be reduced if not fully terminated.

1- There is nothing wrong with JEANS, but what is wrong with DHOTI & KURTA ?

2- There is nothing wrong with ENGLISH, but what is wrong with HINDI, URDU & other Indian Languages ?

3- There is nothing wrong with MODERN EDUCATION SYSTEM, but is wrong with our GURUKUL system ?

4- There is nothing wrong with MODERN MEDICINE SYSTEM, but what is wrong with AYURVEDA ?

5- There is nothing wrong with DATING; COURTSHIP;MARRIAGE, but what is wrong with ARRANGED MARRIAGES?

Such & many more such questions do come up in the lives of our people and society and the answers have to found out to create an atmosphere of Indianness.
 
yes i agree truly that we should change our attitudes towards our culture and atleast during the time of festivals try wearing the cultural dresses like dhotis and kurtas and it is a laudable fact that women still practice this but men are not. we should carry forward a legacy to the generations together keeping in mind that we do not tamper with our culture and let it not perish in the dark.
 
Time is changing at a great speed and so the thinking of the people. There is nothing wrong with the dhotis and kurtas, arranged marriages and other things that you have mentioned. but what if people want these things keeping in mind their traditions and values. I do not think that there is a big difference in any of these, what is more important is that people should value the culture and tradition thats it!
 
i think the questions are putforth aptly but we are moving towards modernization and westernization where people do not wear such ancient dresses.. well, the education system we are now in is little flawed but if developed it can be a better system. and about the attire, i think after few years our own dhotis and kurtas could be in latest trends :D
 
We should really give these things a think :rolleyes: just imagine all the guys in dhotis and kurtas, india would be a lot different then what it is now. But then that would make us segregated from rest of the world! In what ways? well, attire does matter. shirts and pants are worn all around the world and since this type of clothing is internationally accepted, we would also be internationally accepted. I think we could atleast confine our traditional dressing to festivals and other cultural occasions to let the trend pass on.
 
Social Reforms in India is the need of the hour. Nevertheless India has witnessed many social reforms since the time of Independence but India still aspires for some social reforms as some social evils are still prevalent in the society creating hindrance in the path of Social as well as overall development of the nation. Social evils like child marriage, dowry, female foeticide and homicide, gender discrimination, caste system, honor killing, just to name a few, should be completely uprooted from the Society to make it a better place to live.
 
India has witnessed vast social reforms since the time of British Rule. There were many social reformers who have laid the foundation of modern India through their philosophical teachings. Raja Ram Mohan Roy is founder of the Brahma Samaj and have abolished Sati system from India which was prevalent during that time. After him came many social reformers like Swami Vivekanand, Kabir, Swami Dayanand Saraswati etc who have reformed the Indian society to a great extent. However, India still is in need of such great Social reformers and social reforms are still needed in India. There are still certain social evils that exist in the Indian society like the dowry system, caste system, gender discrimination etc that needs to be abolished in order to have a better society.
