What do you believe is the most significant difference between traveling in India 30 years ago and traveling in India nowadays? I would really like to hear your opinions

Oh there is an enormous difference, yet I must say India was and still is very unique, one of my favorites really. Of course it is much more modernized nowadays than it used to be 30 years ago but just a bit more dirtier...
There weren't any online bookings 30 years ago and many of the important sites were not to be reached by planes, therefore many of these sites were still empty...Oh well, that's the way it goes...beautiful places are there to be discovered, lets keep an eye on them

Can't agree more, the online booking is clearly one of the best things happened to us lately. Online Bookings make everybody's life much easier, don't they? Competitive prices on one hand and the easiness concerning bookings on the other hand made our world traveling much more accessible and that is certainly something we can't take for granted after all that hassle we had to go through up until 10-15-20 years ago. Nowadays not only we can book rooms, flights and even activities by ourselves, but we can also reach the most secluded places of all, so true they are not as secluded as they used to be but hey, at last every body can enjoy them while before only the richest or the freakiest were able to visit these places. India is certainly one of these places to prosper due to the online booking and I think it's good. As you said yourself: "beautiful places are there to be discovered" and yes, of course we should keep a good eye on them

Earlier, people visited India to see the great monuments, heritage and natural beauty and still they are the major source of attraction for the tourists but current Indian cities and towns reveal the image of modern attractions like fun cities, entertainment hub, shopping malls, adventure parks etc.

Eevrything has changed in 30 years... some for good and some for bad.. I hear from my parents that when they used to go vaishno Devi it was very raw road and full of difficulty.. but nowadays I have seen that people can go to the main darbar by Auto and horses.. It is not good for those people who walk and then reach there...
People still the same innocent and helpful, but count of such people has increased a lot. Lolzz.. India has modernized a lot. Undoubtedly 30 years ago India was way better in terms of the environmental conditions. Still India is a leading tourist destination, because of its history, monuments, architecture, food and scenic natural beauty. It's difficult for one to get short of views to write about India. Well, I can just say that now you can visit the take a walk through the Indian history in a luxurious way. Mate.. what about the idea of starting your journey in Sikkim, Shopping in Madhya Pradesh, dinning in the plush palace of Rajasthan and finally indulging in a massage on the sands of Goa.

It's an issue to talk about for days, isn't it? I mean, what's better? Staying behind or becoming modern? I wish people could do only good things... Well, I agree with previous poster saying that India is kept very innocent despite everything, and hey I am one of many who can't imagine how it would be not to know India, so after all I guess I must thank modernization which gave me the opportunity to travel far away. I do enjoy it, see whenever I feel like "coming back home" to mother India. I constantly enjoy the advantages of modernization. It's not about shopping though, it's more about ATM, internet, domestic flights and yes I admit...sometime I do enjoy the indulgence of running hot water, air conditioning, TV and WIFI. Oh well...As long as I can still enjoy this amazing ancient culture, stay out in nature and meet people who have not seen TV as much as I did Do you think I'm being selfish?

Expenses!! this is the one thing whcih has changed not only in travelling but also in other things.. travelling not only has changed a lot but it has become more luxurious... earlier the roads were not that good but now a days you can see loads of highways made around the country..its all for good!!
i could hardly understand you my friend. but if it is roughly 200 US dollars, then it is ok.
