Ugadi is a Hindu festival which marks a new beginning. It is the New Year of the states Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. However, many other Indian States celebrate this festival. Although, Ugadi falls on different dates each year, it always falls either in the month of March or April. It is celebrated by cleansing of the houses and taking new clothes. It is carried out in a traditional and ritualistic way and is celebrated with zeal and vehemence. It is one of the most significant festivals especially for the two states. Family get-togethers and making of mouthwatering dishes makes it more interesting. The day is celebrated with music and dance in the evening and puja for the well being of the people in the New year is performed in the day time.
