Velankanni is a small holy town situated on the Coromandel Coast in Tamil Nadu. The town is famous for the Shrine of Virgin Mary which is dedicated to the Madonna of Velankanni often called Our Lady of Health. The history of this town dates back to the 16th century. The shrine here is known as the Sacred Arogya Matha Church and it is believed that Mother Mary is have supernatural healing powers and this is what attracts many pilgrims all over the World. Another attraction of the place is the local village made handloom and silk products which is also capable of attracting the tourist.
