The exact reason for the development of fibroid in the uterus is unknown. Family history of fibroid is one of the reason for it. Genetic abnormalities, alteration in growth factor, abnormalities in vascular system and tissue response to injury. However, the key reason is family history. Even race play a major role in fibroid development. Estrogen hormone that is produced by the body tends to stimulate the growth of fibroid in many cases.
Fibroid tumor in the uterus is seen in more than 20% women in the age group of 40-50 years and quite rare in adolescent girls who have attained puberty. The main reason for fibroid tumor is family history as well as food habit to a certain extent. It is a genetic defect and if there is a family history than the women has a huge chance of having it. Although it is not cancerous, excessive growth can be harmful.
Uterine Fibroids have become quite common among Indian women and many remain undetected due to negligence. It is said to be a hereditary thing but it should be treated in time as it may cause problems if the size of the fibroid increases. It is also said that after attaining menopause, the size decreases gradually but it causes several problems if it is not removed.
