What are the major social problems in India ?

As a developing nation, India has observed endless social problems, one leading to the other. However, one major social problem is illiteracy. It is the sole cause of many other social problems like child marriage, poverty, child labour, gender discrimination so on and so forth. If this is not dealt with at an earliest, it will lead to many other social issues as well as it is and will continue to be a hindrance in development of the country.

What according to you are the major social problems in India?

India is a young and developing nation and has several issues that needs to be addressed and solved for development and progress of the nation. It is true that illiteracy is a major issue of concern but it seems to be coming to an end. However, according to me corruption, dowry system, population growth, poverty, gender discrimination, female foeticide and homicide etc are some of the major social issues of India that needs to be addressed soon.

India has faced and is still facing social, economic and political issues since the time of Independence. However, every social problem is inter-related and one of the major social problem is Dowry system according to me. This is causing several death of women who was not able to provide the demanded dowry.

According to me the major social problem in India is gender discrimination. The obsession for having male child is creating gender gap and this is leading to other social problems like dowry system, domestic violence, child marriage, female foeticide etc. If people stops discriminating between the genders and treat both the genders equally many social problems of the nation can be solved. It can be done only through education and making the people understand the importance of girls and teach them to respect women.

Agreed, "Illiteracy' is The most significant social issue in India. No, building malls, setting up of industrial plants, planning new metro lines wont help curb the social issues of corruption, poverty and unemployment. However Literacy will.
Literacy along with awareness amongst the masses will enable curb social evils like female foeticide ,infanticide,child marriage and domestic violence.Only by educating the masses, can their be change and progress in the country.education will open up their mindsets making them aware of various issues of the country and this will enable them to join hands in curbing anti social activities. the vicious circle of poverty, cohesive unemployment will gradually decline. Only then will the benefits of modernization reach the common masses and India will rise into a better,progressed nation.It is important to understand that the progress of the country is not solely dependent on the upper middle class or the elite class, for a developing country like India, it is significant to consider the remote masses in the rural areas of the country. only when their condition is upraised will there be total development of the country, be it social political or economical. and thus literacy is the key to all issues in India.
