How to Stay On Top Of Assignments

0

Assignments. The most dreaded part of our college lives. There are always too many to handle, too long to complete and we’re way too clueless about them, most of the time. While we manage to get through exams by last minute mugging up, assignments are a little harder to get through because your professors expect high quality material, without grammatical errors and basically, a well researched, coherent assignment. Since they are evaluated by our professors, you know they are going to be ruthless while checking and marking them so here are a few tips on how to submit assignments your professors will be proud of, and get those internal marks.

1. Know the Topic

It is going to be a complete waste of time of you end up writing a 10 page assignment on a topic that was not really assigned. Make sure you’re working on the correct theme and that the material you’re looking up, is actually relevant. Refer to your course books to understand the topic and its particular aspects. Talk to your professor regarding even the slightest doubts, and clarify the theme and the question that is asked, to your complete satisfaction, before starting work.

2. Gather The Research Material

Your course books as well as suggested readings are invaluable during assignments as they provide relevant material, of a suitable intellectual level. Drop by the library and pick up suggested books. Look for academic and scholarly articles on the internet. Of course, Google provides the most varied results. But you can also check up on your college or university website, and other university websites as some of them provide free material there. Even your class notes could be used as your professor might appreciate using the similar structure and vocabulary.

3. Prepare An Outline

Introduction, sub-heads, conclusion. Categorize material under various sub-heads. The outline can be as brief or as detailed as you want but try to make sure that it includes all revenant topics and has a good flow, with a beginning, middle and end.

4. Writing the Assignment

Now that you have the outline ready, it should not be hard to write the entire thing. Figure out the world limit and try to stick to it. Categorize everything into subheadings and parts so it is easy to follow. Use a black and blue pen, underline important terms, write in legible handwriting and be as neat as possible. Your professor will thank you and might even drop in some extra marks! You can either type it or write it by hand but find out what your professor prefers.

5. Submission

Unless it’s an online submission, staple the assignment and put it in a plastic file. And most importantly, know what’s the deadline! You’ll end up losing marks on your hard work if you forget about the deadline and try to turn in your work a few days before the deadline just to be safe. Punctuality and discipline always yields good results in college.

Read up on a lot of critical essays to get multiple points of view and either present all of them briefly or present one well, with all relevant aspects. Assignments are extremely crucial to your internal marking grade and doing it carefully can raise your overall grades so put in that extra effort!
